Market Watch is reporting that there is a possibility that Motorola, may exit the handset business  Richard Windsor, an analyst with Nomura International, told clients a in note published on Tuesday. He added that speculation about Chinese vendors buying the company has risen again, but said a deal is unlikely as those vendors don’t have much of an idea how to fix Motorola’s problems, which he believes are related to platform and software more than hardware.

It is sad if it is true. I still fondly remember my first cell compact phone, it was a Motorola StarTac that I got in 1996. In fact I think I still have it one of the boxes in my basement. It is a dinosaur by today’s standards but back then it was cutting edge and a huge success for Motorola.
