A common practice these days to show the mobile community a new product is to do a video review. This gives the public a good look at a new product that would not get anywhere else. The issue that I have is when they are not done very well. Now I know that a lot of these folks don’t have any video or production experience and that is fine by me. I don’t need flashy graphics and professionally produced video. With today’s software and cameras it is very easy to put together a great looking video which a lot of these sites do. What I don’t like is when they insist on doing the review as a first look. They go through opening the box for the first time and pointing out everything that is in the box. Since this is the first time that they have seen the device we are made to sit through watching them trying to figure out how to turn the device on. I consider this is a waste of time. When I watch a review I want to know what comes with the device, what the device does, and an overview of the features. It should be the reviewers job to do their homework and know about the device before they roll tape. I am not going to buy a device based on what the box looks like or what accessories come with it. By now anyone who has purchased a phone or a PDA pretty much knows what comes with. The deciding factor for me is what the device is capable of and if it will make my life easier. So to all of those reviewers out there forget about opening the box know body cares. Make better use of that time by learning about the device so you can speak intelligently about it. Your videos will be a lot better and provide the information we need as consumers to make an intelligent purchase.

For me it really depends on if the video is marketed as a review or unboxing. Unboxings are boring. but many seem to like them.
Your problem is easily solved. Don’t watch them if you don’t like them. No need in losing sleep over it.

If they like unboxing more power to them. Believe me, I don’t lose any sleep over them. I’m with you unboxing are boring.
Thanks for commenting.

I find them completely boring especially those who give out wrong information because they don’t have any experience with it..

Hmm. Thanks for the pointers. I will try to not unbox the package. I thought that it would provide the consumer with how the product was packaged. Mind you, I always use the product and try it out many times (outtakes, but shhh, don’t tell anyone) before the final video is posted, so it’s not like I’m not familiar with what I’m reviewing.
Okay. I will ditch the unboxing next time. I didn’t think it was that annoying but it’s always nice when people point things out. Thanks!
